Splash Point 5k 20th April

What a way to start off our Summer Tuff Run series.  A good turnout was anticipated at the Splash Point 5k, but with several more entering on the day, club members and regular track runners took the total number of Tuff Fitty’s closer to 45.  Add in many Tuff’s cheering along the Promenade and the sight of so many was most impressive

One other club staged a photocall, but then Tuff Fitty took over the whole seawall for its now traditional pose before the surge of Tuff blue vests over the start line. Joe Pascoe was in the lead for a large portion of the race but was eventually overtaken to finish in second position.  Whilst Clive began the traditional long wait for the results, the winner was explaining he ran in a pair of Mo Farah’s shoes which he had been given. He felt he had been 80 seconds off his expected time which could give a lot of credence to Tuff’s pointing to the chill wind which made conditions tough for the homeward leg. At least we can say we were running in the footsteps of Mo Farah!

So, what was the result then…. finally the decision was announced.

1st place in the men’s competition – Tuff Fitty, with the first four Tuff’s :- Joe Pascoe, Dave March, Andy Crawford and Andy Ruffer.

Fantastic result for those four together with everyone else in the men’s team; some cracking displays evident. Special mention to Gavin Sewell, Glenn Parisi and Tony (Bear) Day, who had good runs despite still being in recovery from Sunday’s Brighton Marathon.

So no pressure on the Ladies then? as defending champions where would they come?   What the men could do, so could the Ladies, who achieved:-

1st place in the Ladies competition.   The first four Tuff’s home were:- Simone Scott, Becky Day, Nina Kyprianidis and Ellie Williams.

Thanks to all our ladies running, a great depth in that squad this evening and again some excellent run splits. Many went on to prolong the evening with some food afterwards!

The team winners each receive a medal which Clive holds. Traditionally the results take a while to be published but when they are available these will be formulated to give an overall age/gender grading. Inspired for the next race? Race Two of our STRUN – Summer Tuff Run Series is the Bognor Park Run held on Saturday morning 21st May. To encourage a good turnout, all paid up Club members will be eligible for a free hot drink from the cafe afterwards
