End of Season Awards & Social Evening

A big thank you to everyone who attended our end of season awards ceremony at the Burlington Hotel. With the theme of ‘dress to impress’ it turned out to be a very enjoyable evening. The three course meal was well received & then our comperes, Stew Smith & Andy Ward, set the scene for the evening.

They then announced the award winners who were presented with their awards by Chairman Clive Harvey.

Thank you to the committee and particularly Nicole Ewer and Catharine Western for the hard work they put into the organisation.  There was a toast to ‘other halves’ who permitted the triathlete in the relationship to indulge in their passion, and to all our club members who have made 2017 another successful year for our club.  We achieved more people completing their first multisport event and others completing their first full distance/Ironman race

The tables were then rearranged with the dance floor and bar receiving a steady flow of visitors throughout.

The main awards were the presentation of our club championship. The nominated races were Frosty, Steyning, Arundel Lido, Club Lido Race 1, Worthing, Club Lido Races 2 & 3 and Southwater.  Competitors could enter as many or as few as they like with their best three scores counting to the overall championships. The first Tuff male home scores 10,000 points and then the closer the rest can get to that time the higher their points total is. The same process is used to score the Ladies with the first Tuff lady scoring 10,000 points with that time used as the basis for the rest to accumulate their points.

The winners were:

Male Champion : Joe Pascoe

2nd place : Tom Goddard

3rd place : Ollie McDonald

~

Female Champion : Nikki Gatland

2nd place : Debra Cauchy-Duval

3rd place : Nicole Patterson-Lett

Male Veteran : Tom Frith

Male SuperVet : Clive Patterson-Lett

~

Female Veteran : Becky Lintott-Clarke

Female Supervet : Nicole Ewer

Tom Gray was acknowledged for completing all the nominated races in 2017.  There had also been much banter between Andy Crawford & Tom Gray across the whole season and at the last race, Tom finished ahead of Andy with the final total difference just 43 points between them, so close out of a possible 30,000. The top dozen from the championship table for each of men and ladies are listed below:-

Mens Championship points Ladies Championship points
Joe Pascoe 30000 Nikki Gatland 30000
Tom Frith 29642 Rebecca Lintott-C 29846

The club championship will alter for 2018 with one Sprint Distance race early in the season, then one Standard Distance mid season followed by a later season Middle Distance race.

It is important to note that with the pride in our club, together with opinion of members and validated by the committee, a decision has been made about club kit.   Whilst of course the nominated races are open to all, for club members to be eligible for the end of season awards in 2018, members are asked to compete  the club champ races in Tuff Fitty kit. We hope you will support this decision as it helps to show Tuff Fitty at it’s best

There were further awards that were presented. Two awards were given out to people who our coaches felt had made the best improvement during the year.  Our awards went to :-

Swimmers Award from the coaches  : Serge Kola

Runners Award from the coaches : James Oram

Highly Commended (Run)  : Stuart Harvey

~

Achievement in face of adversity : Chris Robinson

Highly Commended ~ Leanne Levitt

Finally  our Club Captains award a trophy to someone who they felt have achieved a lot personally over the year. Captains Catharine Western & Joe Pascoe felt that the female award should go to Susan Douglas for venturing far and wide with her passion for open water swimming and being one of the mainstays of the ladies Cross Country team. For the gents, the award went to Ollie McDonald for his progress up the results table in all his races this year returning some much improved impressive times.

Thank you to everyone for their contributions during another excellent Tuff year.
