·         We start this newsletter with some excellent news

·         On the 7th October Guy Mitchell’s wife gave birth to a daughter; Ella Mitchell. Proud dad states she has long legs so must be a Triathlete in the making

·         Soon after on the 11th October David & Simone Craddock became proud parents to Sydney Tate weighing in at 7lb 7.5oz.

Both dad’s now have some competition in wearing one piece suits! Although it is hoped theirs don’t have poppers across the bottom as it could be painful on a bike.

From everyone at Tuff Fitty we wish Ella & Sydney Tate every good health & happiness.

·         This newsletter is important to advise all members of our Annual General meeting

Club Annual General Meeting and Awards Evening

Saturday 22nd October 2005 6pm –7pm Littlehampton Pool

Tuff Fitty is a club run by members for it’s members and in accordance with our written constitution we need to hold our agm.  The phrase agm is deliberately written in small letters in order not to frighten people off. True we will ask if anyone would like to join us on the committee but nobody will be press ganged so you do not have to fear you will be lumbered – you will not.

The formal part of the evening, election of officials, hopefully will not take long & then we can talk about the future, voting in the races for the 2006 club championship and handing out the awards from 2005.

An agenda will be followed and anyone is able to nominate an item.. If you have any item please pass to Clive at least two days before the meeting in order that the agenda can be typed up and copied.

Having said no one would be lumbered would anyone like to join us on the committee? Les unfortunately has to stand down with other commitments, but it is pleasing to report Andrew Coe, Anthony Towers, Clive Harvey, Debbie Gatland, Jon Roper & Margaret Gritton are willing to continue. Both Clive & Anthony are prepared to stand again as Secretary & Treasurer respectively (unless there are other nominations). We do not meet an excessive number of times during the year but your committee has staged several members’ only races. Coming up we have a Bleep test, Autumn Agony, Run coaching, Velodrome and Christmas Social amongst others. Not to forget the Frosty Funday, which is a large undertaking every March. All things to help develop and broaden your club.  Do you have any ideas you would like to see taken forward? Or are willing to stand, please let one of us know.

The timing of our AGM is that we hold it before a late swim. The meeting starts promptly at 6pm at Littlehampton Swimming Centre and we have an effective guillotine on proceedings of must finish by 7pm when we go and change for our late swim. This prevents (usually the secretary) from waffling on to much.

The venue is normally on one of the squash courts – this is to be confirmed. We hope for a good turnout to celebrate with those Tuff Fitties who have won awards & importantly vote for the races that you wish to see within our club championship 2006.

It is a suitable point to thank all the committee for their hard work, much of it unseen during the past year.

We hope to see you there.

·         Well done to the Tuff Fitty contingent who entered the Great South run recently. Some good times recorded from Kev, Steve F, Jon & Clive. An impressive time from Richard Hobbs who pulled on a TF running vest for the first time, well done to him & also Jayme who completed his first 10 miler.

Run Coaching Session

Margaret has kindly organised a run coaching session to be held at Worthing Sports Centre on Friday 28th October. This will take place on the running track and will cost £2 per head, with a 7pm start. A coach will be present and all abilities are welcome. See Margaret to pay your £2 to secure your slot. Quite a number have expressed interest already so should be good.

Club Championship 2006

2005 saw a further successfully Club Championship with a record number of participants. However your committee have discussed how we can improve this moving into the future. Importantly we need to retain one of the core functions that Club members can enter such races in the knowledge that there will be other Tuff Fitties present & make participation more enjoyable. We need to retain sprint races to ensure the Championship remains inclusive for all, including those new to our sport, but also encompass those members looking to move up to or compete in longer distance events.

To this end it has been decided to broaden the number of races from six to seven. Don’t worry the criteria will still remain that it will be your best three scores that count towards the final table so you can participate in as few or as many as you like.  The big difference is that previously we selected five sprint races and one full distance/Olympic distance. For 2006 the championship will comprise four sprint races and three full distance races. This way if your aim for the year is to compete longer distance races or race just at sprint distance, there are sufficient races to compete and secure enough points for your overall position. Of course there is nothing to stop you mixing and matching. Longer course participants will probably still want to race at Southwater and perhaps the season opener at Steyning, (assuming they are voted in) & sprint racers may like to use the support of colleagues to have a go at a longer distance race next year.

So we will select four sprint & three Olympic races. But which ones? This is where you come in. As usual, all fully paid up Tuff Fitty members have the chance to vote. Ballot forms are attached to this newsletter. Voting takes place at the AGM, if you can’t make this you are able to submit a postal vote to the secretary.  Your committee has collated a list of the old faithful races plus some recommendations from members. You need to tick four races from the sprint list & three from the longer distance. If you are not planning to race longer distance and are unsure of the merits of each race then it would be acceptable to vote in the top segment for sprint only.

It is simply the races with the highest votes in each category that win through. Also we hold a reserve list if for any reason a nominated race fails to be staged next year.

So start to decide which ones you would like to see. Aspects to consider could include cost, distance, organisation, value for money or even the size of the goody bag; the choice is yours. One point that may be worthy is the timing of races. It would be nice to spread races across the season rather than have a concerted month of races (if you were injured you would miss the lot).

So have a look at the ballot form. There will be further forms at the AGM. Take the trouble to vote to help get a series of popular races we can all unite behind and set Tuff Fitty up for a successful 2006.
