The beautiful seaside town of Eastbourne welcomes athletes back for the Eastbourne Triathlon on the 14th June 2020. The 2020 event will once again feature a standard distance race alongside the established sprint distance event. Athletes of all abilities and experience, from novice to elite, can sign up to take on the challenge. Starting from the lifeguard’s beach, triathletes will take on an iconic route, swimming against the backdrop of the historic Eastbourne pier, cycling the roads through the South Downs National Park via Beachy Head and running on the iconic promenade to Holywell, before finishing on the Western Lawns.
The sprint distance event is ideal for novice triathletes, consisting of a 750m swim, 18.3km cycle and a 5km run. The Olympic distance race is a 1,500m swim, followed by a challenging 41.5km cycle and a 10km run. There are also relay and aquathon (swim/run) options for both distances.
Part of British Triathlon’s South East Senior series which Tuff Fitty are signed up to – the nominated distance for the team to score is Sprint
There are three different distances plus a team relay to choose from: a super sprint, sprint and standard plus a relay option for the standard distance triathlon.
We are old fashioned so you can still send in an entry form to avoid paying the on line booking fee.
We have also changed the run course for the Sprint. It will now be 3 x 1.66k laps.
Previous competitors have enjoyed this event enormously with a number of triathlon clubs using our race as their Club Championships.
We can also offer a club discount for group bookings. Contact us for more information.
Car parking is free and a short stroll to registration and the start.
Worthing Triathlon is one of the original sea swim events and has been going since 2003. We’re located on the beautiful West Sussex coastline between Brighton and Chichester where the water quality has been good for the last few years. Three race distances are available, Standard, Sprint or Relay which are suitable for all abilities. Our Race HQ is on the grass by the Alinora Boat Ramp, Marine Crescent (near the Yacht Club BN12 4JE), Goring Beach, Worthing. This is a quiet shingle and sand beach with acres of grass alongside the promenade. Spectators have a great view of all the action and can sit on the grass above the transition area in their own little amphitheatre!
The Sprint distance is 750m swim, 21km bike and 5km run; the Relay Triathlon is held over the Standard distance. The Worthing Triathlon has been described as a ‘Bear Grylls’ event in that competitors are tested by the elements in all 3 disciplines. There is no hiding place at Worthing, but that’s why the event has been so successful for 16 years and competitors leave with a sense of achievement. Conditions vary with wind, currents and the tide all having an effect. Excellent safety coverage from the Council Safety RIBS, Surfer Skis, Sailing Club RIBS and our experienced kayak team together with beach spotters.
The bike course is an out and back rolling course on A class roads through the South Downs National Park via Long Furlong and it’s beautiful views before heading back downhill into Goring-by-Sea. The run course is fast and flat with a palm tree lined promenade and turn points at the historic Lido and Pier.
Tuff Fitty’s Middle Distance Club Champ race
Based at Moyles Court School for parking, transition and finish area, we are using nearby Ellingham Lake as the venue for the swim section: beautifully clean and sheltered! After a long run to transition (wetsuits can either be worn, carried or bagged at the swim exit), the bike will take in rolling terrain across the north of the New Forest.
The event is part of South East Senior Series)
Each member of the team swims (500m open water), cycles (11.5 miles) and then runs (2.4 miles) before handing over to the next member of the team. A slightly mad format but great fun for seasoned athletes and newcomers. The event is based in and around Southwater Country Park and is very spectator friendly with lots going on throughout the event!
