2009 Club Championships

What a close finish to this year’s championship. The club has done well in attracting some high quality new recruits this year who look set to do well in 2010. Equally pleasing is the development of our home grown talent with some dramatic improvements in race times over last year. This continued right to the end; from Shane Brayson and Christian Feest clocking up their first ever Triathlons at Southwater, to more people achieving their goal of becoming “Ironman” during the season. An interesting statistic is that in 2008, 41 men got their name on the championship table, this year 48. For the ladies 13 appeared on the 2008 table and 13 this year. However there were another 20 plus out racing multisport this year which illustrates how we need to look carefully at the races we choose for the championship in 2010. With just 1.5% separating the top 5 men in the table, and five different people securing the coveted 10,000 point slot; congratulations go to Gary Locker as new club champion with Dominic Chapman 2nd and Damon Turner 3rd. Stew Smith becomes Male Vet champion with Anthony Towers as runner up. In the ladies competition, Miki Floyd had a great season securing maximum points in all the races she entered. Tiffany Orton clinched runner up position at Southwater with Kirsty Keith in 3rd. Jacqui Black secured the female vet title. Further close competitions with some people gaining identical times at races, and just 1.7% separating the first four in the male supervet category, narrowly won by Clive Harvey.

Thanks to everyone for playing their part in making Tuff Fitty the success it is.
