Posted in the Tuff Fitty Facebook page but not all use Facebook so detail about the track replicated here:-
The running Track is to be re-surfaced in August. We have been given advanced warning about this and we will structure some alternative training sessions. With August being the main holiday month this suits us. The cost is going to be circa £100,000 so it will be to our benefit that when we return we will have a nice go-faster running track to use.
The recent development was that the moss on the track needed to be killed but the council neglected to tell us & other hirers. (despite the statement saying they would!) I heard through the grapevine and frantic calls to the Leisure Centre stated the spraying was to be undertaken week commencing 28th May, so our Wednesday track night was cancelled. In the event it rained heavily that week and in the end no spraying took place!
The official statement:-
“Before we can undertake the refurbishment works to the track it needs to be weed & moss killed and the grass cut back.
The moss killing needs to be done in May and will take up to 5 days (due to the size of the track).
The moss killing is weather dependant and can’t be done when it’s wet and windy. Therefore the works will be done at late notice. As the moss killer is a chemical no one can use the track until 3 hrs after it has been sprayed
Therefore please can you warn any hirers that they not be able to use the track on some of the days. Please note that these works are very important to ensure that we get a good finish to the new textured coating and so that it will last the full 10yrs.”
Fast forward to last week and the following was sent through:-
As you may be aware, in preparation for the refurbishment the track needs to be treated with moss killer and consequently the council have asked us to cancel all bookings during the days the treatment is due to be applied.
Tues 12th June
Weds 13th June
Thurs 14th June
Mon 18th June
Thurs 21st June
As you will see -there is only one date that directly affect us; however as the work is weather dependent I will try to keep abreast of the position as closely as I can. But for now :-
NO Track run Wednesday 13th June. There will be a hill session from Highdown Hill, park in the lower car park (or if full, the top car park and run down) 7pm. Location BN12 6FB.

Yep, a different session on Wednesday with some hills.
We’ll meet in the bottom car park, go through the normal warm-up routine and then a series of hill repeats will really help now we’re mid-season!!
One extra advantage this week is you don’t need your £2!!
Old and New are invited to join us.
Wardy & Marchy!!
