Weekend Round Up 8th 9th January

At the end of the first full week after the New Year, there has been excellent attendance at Tuff Fitty’s training sessions, despite the poor weather, and we still have the following to report on:-

Claire

LOCAL TECHNICAL OFFICIAL

For all events sanctioned by British Triathlon, a Technical Official (TO) needs to be present on the day. Whilst Tuff Fitty have had one qualified, operating for 10 years, there have been calls for the larger clubs such as Tuff Fitty to encourage more. Therefore we are delighted to report Claire Moyle agreed to take on the role. Claire has recently completed the one day training course, the knowledge tester and the course workbook. She now embarks on shadowing another TO at four separate events to complete her qualification of Local Technical Official.

With our members participating in events, it gives an excellent knowledge of the rules and procedures making them ideally placed, to become an Official themselves. For anyone else interested in looking at an Officiating pathway, it can be rewarding, helping to ensure all events are carried out to a high standard. A Local Technical Official can then progress with further training to become a Regional Technical Official which enables them to officiate at open water events.

Congratulations Claire, so Tuff Fitty now have a Local Technical Official and a Regional Technical Official in its ranks.

Trev & Clive

RESOLUTION RUN

Another event organised by UK Running Events, of which many Tuffs have participated recently, earning the buff and socks alongside the obligatory bling. The location for this was Staunton Country Park at Havant, and the distance UK Running often stage of 15k. Trev & Clive Harvey took part in this, meeting up with big brother, who ran, and families who undertook the walks and cafe whilst the event took place. Driving over with ice, and then rain, it didn’t seem the best of ideas, but the Country Park was mainly packed forest trails, which almost, but not quite, kept Clive’s new pair of trail shoes clean. Once the race began with a circuit of the lake the sun came out, and apart from a cheeky short but exceedingly steep climb, it was a fantastic course (main banner shot). Within sight of the finish line, the course veered down to the lake, just to go up the cheeky hill once again which was a bit mean, but the event did put the ‘resolution’ into the New Year – a recommended venue which didn’t take long to get to for anyone looking at an early season event next year.

FROSTY AQUATHLON

Entries continue to arrive for our Frosty Aquathlon on the 6th March. A question has been asked about the team event, run in conjunction with the 800m/10k race. Some have asked whether they should be part of a team. The answer is that anyone competing whether a Tuff or one of our readers, provided a club name is entered the first four home in the results will be that club’s first team * with the next four another team. * It is important to stress that the team of four must be mixed, having at least one male or one female in the group. So feel free to race strong, having clearly marked your club, to not only gain your individual finisher position but also help your club, if you have a minimum of four (mixed) for a team.

PARKRUN

At Littlehampton parkrun Steve Fryer was to the fore, running home in 8th position overall in 21:20. Kev Pearson was next on his 9th consecutive parkrun in 22:26, 16th overall. Richard Budd was our third Tuff home in 24:11. Alistair Evans recorded his 67th parkrun who also helped on the organising team. Also good work from Adrian Oliver who was also on the organising squad.

Worthing parkrun saw Paul Martin in action as first Tuff home in 23:23 with Les Pearce finishing closely behind in 24:00 for his 142nd run. Finishing within 3 seconds of each other were Steve Woodbridge followed by Kate Cooper. Chris Sloggett was next for his 141 run. James Oram also ran pacing a friend around for his 122nd. Dave Priest & Elaine Rousseau completed the Tuff contingent this week.

Well done to all 13 who managed to complete before the worst of Saturday’s weather rolled in.
