Round Up 1st – 31st August 2026
It is clear from the parkrun round up that many Tuffs have been on their travels over August, but some members have been competing in a range of events. Thank you to everyone who reported in this month, with special mention to Clive and Trevor Harvey who sent in 3 reports between them.
Sussex Beer Mile – Saturday 25th July 2026 – Ferring

Facebook posts indicated that whilst many teams were in for the beer mile, it was notable that a few of the larger clubs were missing (namely Tuff Fitty). It was unfortunate that the date was the same as the London T100 where a Tuff trip had been organised,
To ensure Tuff Fitty were represented, a team of myself, Glenn Parisi, Emily Todd and Adam Stringer joined together for a relay team. As ‘Other running clubs are available’, it was pleasing to see some other members present but special mention goes to Dan Barnett. Whilst representing a Striders team, he was also wearing his Tuff top in case his services were required.
It was held at Ferring Football Club with a licenced bar. Why do you need that when everyone had their own drink? However, Glenn thought it would be useful to get the pints of Guinness in to settle the stomach prior to our run!
The sun was scorching as the beers (had to be over 5% alc) were lined up. Tipsy Tuffs were off, quaffing a beer, upending the can over the head to show it had been consumed; then racing around the field. Team mates tagged to complete our quartet. Pleasing to report we all completed without ‘regurgitation’. Special mention to Tuff Danny Cunnett who not only was a timekeeper but also participated in the solo beer mile.
A smart beer mat/bottle opener was the memento, and to celebrate a successful race, burgers were consumed; but then the announcer stated everyone had to join together for a final run around the field, so team Tipsy Tuffs were off on another lap!
A well-organised fun event. Next year we will need to gather more teams and encourage some of our previous entrants to make a comeback.
Highdown Hike – Wednesday 5th August – Angmering

Held on the same night as our traditional track night, several Tuffs decided to put track training to the test at The Highdown Hike; a hilly 5 miler up to Highdown and back
There were some strong Tuff performances with our top three comprising Steve Fryer, Karl Halom and Danny Cunnett. Also completing the undulations were Steve Feest* Glenn Parisi, Paul Edmonds, Theresa Farley, Colin Simpson, Mark Sole. Clive Harvey, Tracey Goult*, Claire Moyle* & Chris Evans ( *entrants running for their running club). Thanks to Dan Barnett as race director who invited us along, and a plethora of other Tuffs who are also members of Worthing Striders marshalling, cheering or manning the plentiful cake stall. With Adam Stringer, Andy Rossiter & Sue Simpson on the cheering team that was 21 gathered at the Worthing Rugby Club finish.
Datchet Dashers’ Relay – Tuesday 11th August 2026 – Windsor

Trevor Harvey reports that he had entered the Datchet Dashers’ Relay last year, and having mentioned to Clive Harvey & Glenn Parisi that he was in a team for this year’s event, they also agreed to enter a Tuff Team.
As this is held in Home Park Windsor, I had already entered under my local run Club WTF – Windsor Town Funrunners. So it was Tuff v WTF!
The format is teams of two people run alternate 1km laps of the course until a total of 10km has been covered. So, ‘only’ 5km per person, but the fact you get tagged after 1km ensures that it is fairly fast and furious!
A low-cost event, well organised and with a medal at the end………………oh, and you’ll be pleased to learn that the Tuff team beat my WTF team!!!
Darley Moor Duathlon – Sunday 23rd August 2026 – Ashbourne

Many thanks and congratulations to Steve Feest, who has sent in the following report:
One door closes and another opens!
A running Achilles injury in 2008 got me into multi discipline. I joined Tuff Fitty and was inspired by Bob Thomas, amongst others, to have a go at Age Group racing.
Fast forward to Sept 2025 and the same injury, but on the other ankle this time, meant I was out from running for 5 months but got back on the bike.
This time I was taking inspiration from another Bob, (Rogers), who I knew from his days at Worthing Rowing Club when I was a cox there in the late 1960s.
So, in Spring 2026, with my running coming back, and some bike fitness, I entered a Duathlon qualifying race up at Darley Moor, Ashbourne, Derbyshire taking place August 23rd.
4.8k run followed by 8 laps on the bike around the motor racing circuit totalling 18k, then one last run around the perimeter of 2.48k and the race was over in 1hr 10 mins and 43 secs
The race went well and after a couple of weeks I had a “Q1” against my name for the European Sprint Distance Duathlon Championships in Spain next year, 2027, competing in the 70-74 AG.
I just need to sort my shoulder out now and maybe I can get back into swimming!
Arundel Castle 10k – Sunday 30th August 2026 – Arundel

12 Tuffs turned out for the annual Arundel Castle 10k, which was also the 4th event in the Summer Run Series. Huge congratulations to Abi Clark for being 1st lady. Fraser Kidd was also an excellent 5th place, with cracking results all round. There were 6 Tuffs in the top 26 with over 300 entrants, resulting in Tuff Fitty taking home the team prize thanks to the performances of Fraser, Abi, Marc Flinders and Stuart Harvey. Also running were Gareth Coombes, Steve Fryer, Paul Edmonds, Olivia Morey, Glenn Parisi, Kev Pearson, Amanda De Ridder and Christine Griffin. Tuff supporters were out in force too! Well done everyone!
Tuff Family News

A brand new Tuff!
Huge congratulations to Amy Flinders and Matt Charman and many thanks to Amy for sharing their wonderful news … not to mention the cute photo!
Here’s Amy’s message:
Just checking in to let everyone know that Baby Charman arrived safe & well on 3.9.26.
Missing all of the Tuffs, especially the Saturday morning run crew but having a wonderful rest whilst getting the hang of life with a newborn.
We can’t wait to bring our new tiny mascot to some events, hopefully in the not-too-distant future!
